What happens if you run clean-mailboxdatabase against the source database?
When you tried to remove that source database, does it complain that you cant because it still contains mailboxes?

I have not run clean -mailbox database yet since the database still has mailboxes in it that need moving out to another database at which time i can safely remove it. Does clean-mailbox database remove all the mailboxes ?Peter clausen

No, it simply marks disconnected mailboxes correctly, i.e. cleans things up logically.
Give it a try.

Yes, you can run as much as you want :)
Check the event logs afterwards, it will tell you how many mailboxes were marked for deletion.
